Who am I?

My name is Alex.

I’ve been doing this for a while.
While some of the photos you will see here are deliberate, mostly, they’re just byproducts of my going through life, day by day. They accumulate around me along with emotions, dreams, memories. In a way, they’re memories of memories of dreams, and if you get the reference, I think I like you already. If you don’t, I probably still like you.

I was born and raised in the Soviet Union, spent quite a few years in Boston, a couple in San Diego, and currently live in San Francisco. I like it here.

Memories of memories of what?

The name of this site is a reference to “If in a Winter’s Night a Traveller”,  a great book by the late Italo Calvino. Read it.

What is this place?

A photo blog. Every post will be a photograph acompanied by a description. At this point, I have only a relatively rough guess as to what form this will take. Web-sites, once they take on a life of their own, tend to surprise their creators. Time will tell.

I expect that I will be making a couple of posts a week, filling in gaps in new material with photographs from my past.
