Masha has appeared before here and here. This is the first of a series of photos I took of her last December. More to follow.

Last week I did a test shoot with Andrea, a SF local, and Crystal, who was visiting from Hong Kong, where she writes for Harper’s Bazaar. This is one of the looks.

Here’s a shot from last Friday’s shoot with Morgan Barbour. Due to an unfortunate chain of events we only had something like 30 minutes at the location to set up, shoot, and break down the set, so I knew I only had one shot at the look I was going after. Originally, I envisioned an Ingmar Berman inspired image, I even bought a wall-clock and tore out the hands – it was going to hang on the wall in the background – but that had to be scrapped due to insane time constraints. In the result, I had to strip the image down to the basics and hope they worked and, well, you’ll be the judge of that.

When I arrived at Sasha’s to take pictures of him and Nastya, the first thing that caught my eye was an awesomely nostalgic hot-water-radiator they had in their apartment. Heating like this was ubiquitous in the Soviet Union and there was no stopping the chain of associations that led me to this picture.

One of  my favorite shots from last Friday’s shoot with Masha. This was towards the end of the night and I decided to experiment with giving the photos more of a graphic and less of a photographic feel.

This is one of the photos of what should probably be the last series of our very own pregnant girl-next-door. She’s due any time now.

It’s also one of the first photos (from the very second roll of film) to come out of my new Contax 645 that I’m completely in love with. It feels like this camera was designed specifically for me. All the features that I want are exactly where I want them, all the controls are intuitive, and the lens on this thing is to die for.
