Here’s a shot from last Friday’s shoot with Morgan Barbour. Due to an unfortunate chain of events we only had something like 30 minutes at the location to set up, shoot, and break down the set, so I knew I only had one shot at the look I was going after. Originally, I envisioned an Ingmar Berman inspired image, I even bought a wall-clock and tore out the hands – it was going to hang on the wall in the background – but that had to be scrapped due to insane time constraints. In the result, I had to strip the image down to the basics and hope they worked and, well, you’ll be the judge of that.

Here’s another shot from the same series. So far it seems to have gotten the biggest response elsewhere so here it goes.

A couple of days ago I did my second shoot with Sara (who appears on the title screen of this website). The first thing we shot, the main theme of the shoot, was my attempt to illustrate the way I perceive Death. After years of dancing around it, this is my first attempt to tackle the subject directly. Here it is. I’m also aware of the fact that I’m breaking all the rules by talking about this here – it’s too loaded of a title to assign to a picture, it will cripple your (editorial) ability to think about it on your own terms. But screw it, this is a blog, after all, and not an exhibition. Had this been an exhibition, the title would’ve been “untitled” or “***” or something else to that matter.

I haven’t posted here for quite a while, I guess it’s time to change that.
I took only a few photos at this photo session. I know that some of them should have been really good, but since I forgot to take off the lens cap, we will never find out if that was true or not.

A girl goes out in the morning, like a knight -
Ponytail and riding motions.
Dresses, handbags, sunglasses, chain, buckles,
Like armor on her body.

Finally, after weeks of travel and chaos, I was able to do some serious shooting last night. This is our first shoot with Sarinka, who I’ve met on ModelMayhem, and who completely blew me away with her ability to show emotion through movement. We had a pretty abstract concept going into the shoot, a marionette as she’s pulled up by the strings, and she nailed it, time and time again. We shot this at an abandoned artillery bunker overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

I’ll be posting more from this shoot over the next few days. Plus, there’s a couple of rolls of wide film waiting to be developed.

I got this image last friday, on my first shoot with E. We decided that we’re going to walk around in the San Francisco parks (this one was shot in the Presidio, a bunch more in the Golden Gate Park) and see where the mood takes us. What we wound up with was the closest thing to a fashion-style shoot that I’ve ever done before. I’ll be posting a few more pictures in the next couple of days.

This was also the first real test of my new Olympus OM2-SP, which I got in Portland to replace my OM4 – my primary camera for a good while that didn’t survive our trip to New Zealand. It, the OM2, is now officially my favorite camera. It just feels… right, much better than its fancier and more modern counterpart ever did.

This is one of the first shots in the yet-unnamed project I’m begining to work on. It will focus on the contrast and interplay between living human emotion and the sterile and still inanimate objects. I have not yet fully framed it in my mind, but it feels like I’m getting there little by little. Expect more photos along this theme.

This was a shot I randomly snagged during a shoot for my just-barely-stated and yet unnamed styrfoam heads project. More on that later. In any case, we were in between changing  setups when I saw the light fall on the model in what I thought was a flattering way and I took a quick portrait.
