Masha has appeared before here and here. This is the first of a series of photos I took of her last December. More to follow.

I’m going to keep going for a little while with pictures from the first couple of days of Nyusha’s life. I shot a total of 3 rolls of film while we were at the hospital and got a surprising number of photos I’m happy wihth. I’m (obviously) not going to post all of ‘em here lest they take over this website, but here’s another one and there will likely be a few more following it.

On this one, she’s already something like a day old, relaxing after a morning meal.

I got this pic on my second attempt. I had tried to shoot it (and other like it, I’ll be posting at least one more) a couple of weeks ago, failed miserably, and reshot this Saturday.

This is also my first attempt to use D-DX to develop Delta 3200. I like what I got better than my experiments with Rodinal at high dilutions and long times. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with that film for a long time now, but I think I’m actually beginning to get a feel for it now.

I took this shot on a lazy Saturday morning as a continuation in this series (1,2,3). I was still mostly asleep when I saw the cats start posing. In a daze, I loaded a roll of a very expired Delta 3200 into my camera, shot it, developed it, and scanned it, all within a half an hour or so. The film turned out to be very expired – and I’m kicking myself for it now as this photograph, along with others on the roll, has very special significance to me – it’s the first “pregnancy” shot of Marina that I did.

20 weeks and counting.

There are many such mornings, where I wake up, and as I’m lying there still somewhat in a daze I think to myself “I really need to get up, put a roll of film into my camera, and take a picture of this”. In most cases, I then proceed to fall back asleep, or lie there and stare at the ceiling, thinking just how happy I am, or something.

This time around it actually happened. Another happy moment of my life documented for posterity.

When I arrived at Sasha’s to take pictures of him and Nastya, the first thing that caught my eye was an awesomely nostalgic hot-water-radiator they had in their apartment. Heating like this was ubiquitous in the Soviet Union and there was no stopping the chain of associations that led me to this picture.

One of  my favorite shots from last Friday’s shoot with Masha. This was towards the end of the night and I decided to experiment with giving the photos more of a graphic and less of a photographic feel.
